The 11.11 Global Shopping Festival, the world’s largest one-day, online sale, is by no means a purely Chinese affair. From just 27 merchants participating when Double 11 launched in 2009, that number now sits at just under 100,000—and 11,000 of those were international. Indeed, the festival has become such an important gateway to China for overseas brands that more than half of Forbes’ new ranking of the World’s Most Valuable Brands took part, spanning product categories from apparel to autos.
