This week, the 6.18 Mid-Year Shopping Festival is in full swing. Brands big and small have set new records since the campaign kicked off its official sales period on June 1. Cainiao Network is also rapidly expanding its international logistics services to support cross-border trade for Korean SMEs, as well as preparing for its 2021 Global Smart Logistics Summit slated to take place in Hangzhou next week.

Brands Setting New Records during 6.18 Mid-Year Shopping Festival

Brands have been seeing new sales milestones just as 6.18 kicks into high gear this week. According to statistics from Alibaba’s logistics arm, Cainiao, over one million shoppers have received their presales purchases by 8 a.m. as of June 1. On the same day, Tmall said 755 new brands on the platform – as defined as brands that have joined the platform within the past three years – have each generated more than RMB1 million in transactions.

For more established brands, this year’s 6.18 campaign is all about membership engagement. Shoppers who have signed on to their favorite brands’ membership programs on Tmall can expect more additional perks and benefits. For example, Shiseido offered members a gift package valued at RMB1040 for purchases beyond a given threshold. According to the platform, these incentives have boosted member-driven spending and are new growth drivers for brands. Millions of loyalty-program members on Tmall helped drive sales for 25 brands, which had each exceeded RMB100 million in transactions on June 1.

Cainiao, KOSME Join Forces to Support Cross-Border Logistics for Korean SMEs

Alibaba Group’s logistics arm signed a memorandum of understanding with the non-profit Korea SMEs and Startups Agency, or KOSME, to serve as the logistics partner for SME export business in South Korea. The partnership aims to promote bilateral trade and further accelerate e-commerce development between Korea and China. As part of the partnership, Cainiao will also support KOSME’s ongoing subsidy programs for Korean SMEs export over 3.7 million online orders in 2020. Qualified SMEs can receive up to 15 million won ($13,437) in subsidies per company which can cover approximately 70% of their export expenses. This comes as Cainiao continues to strengthen its logistics capabilities in Korea over the past year. In 2020, the company launched end-to-end, one-stop cross-border logistics services in the market, improving shipping efficiency by 50% and halving the average shipping time from 10-13 days.

Cainiao Gears Up for 2021 Global Smart Logistics Summit

In related news, Cainiao will be hosting its annual Global Smart Logistics Summit in Hangzhou next week on June 9-10. Themed “New Developments and Opportunities,” this year’s event will include nine breakout sessions that cover topics, such as rural logistics, digital technologies, green innovations. The two-day event will be livestreamed on Cainiao’s official site and will feature speakers including Alibaba Group Chairman and CEO Daniel Zhang, Cainiao CEO Wan Lin, Chief Researcher at the China Center for International Economic Exchanges Zhang Yansheng, the World Food Program’s Deputy Executive Director Amir Mahmoud Abdulla and the Vice President of Air China Cargo Wang Hongyan.
