Cainiao, Geely Partner to Drive Electric Vehicle Growth Overseas
This week, the electric vehicle unit of Geely signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Cainiao to join forces and explore more overseas markets.
Electric vehicles, or new energy vehicles (NEV) as they are called in China, are growing in popularity. They accounted for a record 40% of passenger cars sold in December 2023, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association.
On the commercial scale, manufacturers like Geely are also making electric trucks and buses to keep up with demand.
Leveraging Cainiao’s extensive global logistics network, Geely will be able to bring these vehicles and parts to customers outside China.
This is not Geely’s first tie-up with Alibaba. Last year, the automaker announced a strategic partnership with the platform company to increase digitalization across its supply chain.
Geely also uses e-commerce platform Tmall to find new consumers and service existing ones. For instance, consumers can book test drives and even place orders on the retail site.
