Alison Tudor-Ackroyd has joined China’s largest e-commerce company, Alibaba Group, as Managing Editor of its corporate newsroom Alizila.
Alizila writes about Alibaba, the digital economy and China-specific insights for a global audience of businesses, investors and policymakers seeking information on the world’s second-largest economy.
Alison is an award-winning multimedia editor with over two decades of experience in journalism at publications including The Wall Street Journal, Reuters and most recently, the South China Morning Post.
Alison will lead a team of experienced journalists and production editors at Alizila. She will continue to be based in Hong Kong and report to Erica Matthews, Head of International Corporate Communications (U.S., Europe, Middle East, Africa) at Alibaba.
In her career, she has worked as a financial and business correspondent in Tokyo, London, Milan, Paris and Hong Kong. Alison is a frequent host and moderator at business conferences throughout Asia.
Alison was awarded “Outstanding Contribution to Institutional Journalism” and named “FinTech Journalist of the Year” in 2018.
At Hong Kong-headquartered SCMP, Alison was Finance Editor and built out the publication’s coverage of China’s innovative technology platforms for a global audience of investors. Alibaba owns the SCMP.
Between 2008 and 2012, Alison worked at The WSJ in Hong Kong and Tokyo where she wrote about Japanese financial institutions acquiring stakes in storied Wall Street banks and the opening up of mainland China’s financial industry to overseas investment.
Alison started her journalism career in London, covering financial news for Reuters and AFX News. She was born in the United Kingdom and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Politics from Durham University in the U.K. and Luiss Guido Carli University, Rome.
