Chinese university students have chosen Alibaba as one of the country’s best places to work.According to an annual survey recently released by job recruitment website ChinaHR.com, Alibaba was selected as the third most-favored company among students, after China Mobile and Bank of China. Alibaba ranked No. 2 last year.
The survey, titled “The Best Employer of College Graduates in China,” consists of two lists: the 50 most-favored enterprises and the top 10 industries. In compiling the lists, ChinaHR.comquestioned almost 200,000 students from 764 universities.Students nearing graduation often use the rankings when planning their careers, said Edward Lo, CEO of ChinaHR.com.
Among other trends, the survey this year indicated Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs), while still the most favored post-college destination, have lost some ground to private enterprises.Foreign companies also gained back some cachet after experiencing a drop during the economic turmoil of the last few years. Almost one-third of survey respondents named foreign companies as their first employment choice this year, compared with only 14.5% last year.A more stable economy is encouraging students to explore job opportunities outside SOEs, which are known for job security, said ChinaHR.com.
Among preferred industries, finance and Internetsectors topped the list, followed by telecommunications, the computer industry and energy resources.
Privately owned Alibaba Group, one of China’s largest Internet companies, and its affiliate Alipay currently employ more than 22,000 people in 70 cities in China, India, Japan, Korea, the U.K. and the U.S.
